Temperament & Personality

Intelligent and active, but are not typically as cuddly as other cockatoo species. They are known to be more independent and can become quite aggressive, especially males.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Not known for being great talkers, but can learn a few words. Their natural call is very distinct.

Dietary Needs

A formulated diet is best, supplemented with a variety of vegetables. In the wild, they eat a lot of seeds, but this should be limited in captivity to prevent obesity.

Health & Lifespan

A hardy species with a lifespan of 60+ years. Can be prone to bonding with one person and becoming aggressive toward others.

Housing Requirements

Not recommended for apartments. They need a very large cage or aviary to accommodate their active nature. Minimum 36"W x 24"D x 48"H.
