Temperament & Personality

Known for being intelligent, gentle, and inquisitive. They are less demanding and aggressive than many other large macaws, making them prized companions.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Good talkers, able to mimic a variety of words and phrases with clarity. They are also known for their playful, chattering sounds.

Dietary Needs

A formulated diet supplemented with fruits, vegetables, and a variety of nuts, particularly palm nuts, which are a favorite.

Health & Lifespan

Can live for 50+ years. Being critically endangered, they require specialized care. They are susceptible to PDD and require a very clean environment. Regular veterinary care is essential.

Housing Requirements

Needs a very large cage or aviary, minimum 48"W x 36"D x 60"H. Not suitable for apartments.
