Temperament & Personality

Highly intelligent, social, and can form very strong bonds with their owners. They are playful and enjoy being the center of attention, but require consistent training to prevent nipping.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Excellent talkers with the ability to learn a large vocabulary of words and phrases. Their voices are typically very clear.

Dietary Needs

Require a diet higher in fat than many other parrots. A high-quality pelleted diet should be supplemented with a variety of nuts (like walnuts, macadamias, and almonds), fresh fruits, and vegetables.

Health & Lifespan

Can live 60-80+ years. Prone to feather plucking if bored or stressed, Proventricular Dilatation Disease (PDD), and overgrown beaks. They need plenty of hard toys to chew.

Housing Requirements

Requires a very large and durable cage, at least 48"W x 36"D x 72"H. An outdoor aviary is ideal. Absolutely not suitable for apartments due to their size and noise level.
