Temperament & Personality

Gentle, quiet, and can be somewhat shy or reserved. They are not typically cuddly parrots and are better suited for owners who enjoy watching active birds. They are very social with their own kind.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Not known for their ability to mimic speech. Their vocalizations consist of soft, melodic chattering and whistles.

Dietary Needs

A base diet of high-quality pellets or a good parakeet seed mix. This should be supplemented with a variety of fresh vegetables, greens, and a small amount of fruit.

Health & Lifespan

A very hardy species that can live up to 20 years. As they are extremely active, they are prone to stress if confined to a small cage without the opportunity for flight.

Housing Requirements

An aviary or a large flight cage is essential. A long cage is more important than a tall one to allow for horizontal flight. A minimum of 48"L x 24"D x 24"H is recommended. Not ideal for apartments unless a very large cage can be provided.
