Temperament & Personality

Intelligent, inquisitive, and can be quite gentle and affectionate. They are known for their clownish antics but are less 'hyper' than many smaller conures.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Can learn to talk, but they are not known for their clarity. They are more likely to be loud with their natural calls.

Dietary Needs

A diet based on high-quality pellets, with a variety of fresh vegetables, some fruit, and nuts. They enjoy chewing, so providing foraging opportunities is great.

Health & Lifespan

A very hardy species that can live for 30+ years. They need an extremely durable cage and lots of chew toys to keep their powerful beaks busy.

Housing Requirements

Absolutely not suitable for apartments. Their noise is extreme. They need a very large and strong cage or aviary, minimum 40"W x 30"D x 60"H.
