Temperament & Personality

Generally shy, quiet, and sweet-natured. They are less demanding than many other Poicephalus parrots and can be very affectionate once they form a bond.

Vocalization & Talking Ability

Not known for their talking ability, but they can mimic a variety of household sounds. Their natural calls are not overly loud.

Dietary Needs

A high-quality pelleted diet, supplemented with fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and a small amount of fruit.

Health & Lifespan

Generally a hardy species with a lifespan of 20-30 years. As with other Poicephalus, they can be susceptible to aspergillosis if kept in a damp or poorly ventilated environment.

Housing Requirements

Excellent for apartments due to their quiet nature. A minimum cage size of 24"W x 18"D x 24"H is suitable.
